Inspired by the unforgettable chocolate cake scene from Matilda, the one brave Bruce Bogtrotter had to finish in front of the entire school. Dark. Glossy. Decadent.

    Preheat oven to 170–180°C. Grease and line cake pans.

    Mix cocoa powder and oil until smooth and glossy.

    Add sugars, eggs, vanilla, and milk. Whisk well.

    Sift in flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Fold gently.

    Pour in the very hot coffee and mix. The batter will be thin.

    Bake for 35–45 minutes until set.

    Cool completely before assembling.

    Melt dark chocolate and butter together.

    Pour over dulce de leche.

    Add heavy cream and mix until silky and thick.

    Cover with plastic wrap touching the surface.

    Chill until spreadable.

    Layer generously.
