Grandma’s Southern Peach Cobbler
This is the classic “magic” cobbler recipe that has been passed down through generations. Unlike a pie, you pour the batter over melted butter, then dump the peaches on top. As it bakes, the crust magically rises through the fruit to create a golden, buttery, cake-like topping. It is rustic, incredibly easy, and pure comfort.

Preheat your oven to 190°C.
- 1
Place the stick of butter in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Put the dish in the heating oven for a few minutes until the butter has completely melted. Remove the dish.
- 2
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- 3
Pour the milk into the dry ingredients and whisk until you have a smooth batter.
- 4
Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. DO NOT STIR. Let the butter pool around the edges.
- 5
Spoon the peaches (and a splash of the juice if using canned) evenly over the batter. Sprinkle the top generously with cinnamon and nutmeg. Again, DO NOT STIR.
- 6
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the batter has risen to the top and is golden brown and bubbly.
- 7
Let it cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
